Plan Ahead~~ Save the Date !

Coming This Late Spring: Melissa Morgan-Oakes author of
“2 At A Time Socks”

You’ve taken her class 2 at a time socks, now why not try toe up?
Melissa will be here soon after her new book debuts. Her classes are not only instructional but they are FUN!

Toe Up 2-At A Time is the title of her new book. advance copies can be reserved now at Coordinated Colors Yarn Shoppe.

A $50.00 deposit will hold your seat with the remainder due on or before the class date. ($40.00 )
We are currently looking at class dates on JUNE 19th and 20th.

Plan Ahead - Save the dates!

So please if you are wanting to take Melissa’s newest class, please drop me a note (sb@coordinatedcolors.com) and let me know.

There have already been people asking to reserve seats in this new class and we expect a large full class very quickly.

Melissa Morgan-Oakes was taught to crochet, tat, and sew at an early age by women who
encouraged her to work without commercial patterns. Looking for new inroads in fiber art,
Morgan-Oakes taught herself to spin and knit. She brings the perspective of a self-taught knitter
to her classes. A registered nurse and former home-schooling mom she now teaches knitting,
writes, and designs patterns in beautiful Western Massachusetts

Toe Up 2-at-a-Time Socks - 6 hours
What could be better than socks knitted 2-at-a-Time?
Why 2-at-a-Time socks knitted from the
toes to the top, of course! Now there’s no “second sock syndrome”, and you can build your socks
from the toes up – no yarn shortage surprises, you can make a cuff shorter if need be! Under the
tuition of the creator of this novel knitting method, students will create their own miniature
sample socks using the technique outlines in the book
Toe Up 2-at-a-Time Socks.

Information will be published on this group, on Ravelry and by newsletter. If you are not getting the newsletter, please go to our website (www.coordinatedcolors.com) and sign up for it.

Saturday Workshops You Don't Want to Miss!

Saturday, October 17th 4:00pm
Tubular Cast on/off

This provisional cast on will not only make your knitting look more professional but it will end the worry of too tight a cast on for your projects.
The tubal ribbed cast on is probably the most elastic of
cast-ons. Stretching as far as the yarn will allow, this is the most preferred cast on for socks, cuffs, neck lines and any other smaller areas.

Come and learn this marvelous cast-on, while enjoying the company of fellow knitters.

Cost for these and other workshops to come is only $5.00
plus the materials.

Come and Learn a new Cast-on:
OCTOBER 17th 4:00pm Cost: $5.00 cash plus materials

Everyone’s got a favorite cast-on and bind off they use all the time. This time, though, we suggest using tubular (invisible) cast-ons for your socks and other small circular areas . Why? Because they create beautifully finished, polished edges that have all the elasticity of the ribbing itself. There won’t be any puckering at the edges, as can happen with “hard” cast-ons, and they’ll hold their shape at the neckline and cuffs. Also, it’s very easy to substitute a tubular cast-on when working in 1x1 rib. All in all, a highly recommended choice for all types of knitted projects. It is a very elastic cast on and will stretch further than any other cast on, which makes this THE perfect choice for socks, especially if you never want to worry about that cast on edge being too tight ever again!

We will be doing the most wonderful project I recently came across: The Candle Flame Neck Cowl by Julia Allen
This lovely little neck cozy ( or gator ) is great for beginners as well as those more advanced. It is a project that can be completed in
a short amount of time also and used just one 150 yard ball of yarn.

And may we suggest a new yarn from Berroco this fall simply perfect for this project? I have done the shop model in Lustra. This yarn is wonderful!
LUSTRA
50% Peruvian Wool / 50% Tencel
3.5 oz. / 100 grams
197 yards

Yarns and colors for the guys:
We are focusing on more yarns in more shades for that special man in your life.
All yarn shops have colors appealing to women, and we are no different.

As new yarns appear this fall, we are centering on yarns that would be appealing to men ( and boys).
There are Eco wools in natural shades from Swedish Yarns, Eco Alpaca, Blackstone tweed from Berroco,
washable wools from Cascade and many others. Many projects are under $20.00 to complete.

New Mini-project bags:

Whether you have liked the needles or not, the cases for the
Hiya Hiya Inter-changeable sets have been
catching everyone's eye.
They have just come out with a mini-project tote bag,
perfect for holding a pair or two of socks and the yarns.
The mini-project bags come in two colors: red and teal

We sold out of these in one weekend!
But as I promised I did order more and they arrived yesterday.
I have one in use if anyone wants to see and there is also one on the counter to play with.

BUTTONS
We carry a variety of buttons for your projects and can special order at any time. Don't see ones you like? Please ask for the catalogue to browse through. Orders are received in 7 to 10 days.

We understand that in this economy, while knitters and crocheters do not want to stop working,
buying yarns may get put on the back burner. That is why we have continued to always have a good budget prices inventory of yarns
as well as many sale items. If you are anything like most, you feel strange without that knitting in your hands or the delightful crochet you are always doing to "keep busy".

We do carry a good selection of the budget priced yarns. We always have a sale or two going on to help stretch your dollars. We will never make you feel uncomfortable coming into our shop and not buying or require you to buy something that day to come to one of our Sit and Stitch Groups.

Most assistance with projects is free and there is a donation jar up on the counter for those who want to toss a few coins in there.

We understand the use of debit/credit cards yet we have never added the costs associated with taking these into the cost of our yarns and products. We would hope we never have too. That is why we ask for your understanding about our preference to a check or cash if your purchases come to under $15.00 or even $20.00.

This is your local yarn shop and we want you to always feel free to ask for what you'd like to see in stock be it an expensive or inexpensive yarn.
If there is a yarn you want to see in the store, please do let me know. I have never been very good at reading minds. same goes with classes.

We are now open till 7 pm on Friday's.

Please visit this site to learn how you
can make a difference in the economy and
support your local merchants.

It's way to early! Not used to this 5 am routine and school? I really don't like giving my kids back to the schools. I am one of those Moms that really like having the kids home and around. Even with all their noise. Oh sure, last week I was wondering why it was illegal to sell them on Ebay, but after all they were doing nothing but screaming at each other!

Today is my son's first day in high school. New school for him, new traffic patterns for me.

Work? To far away yet to think about that.
